Agave Spirits

What are Agave Spirits?

Agave spirits, also known as agave-based spirits, are distilled alcoholic beverages made from the agave plant. The most famous type of agave spirit is tequila, but there are various other types such as mezcal, raicilla, bacanora, and sotol. These spirits are primarily produced in Mexico. At Sasma we have seen  a surge in demand for agave spirits as more brands are experimenting with agave’s distinct taste and flavor profile to expand their portfolio.

Sasma is the ideal partner if you are searching for a reliable supplier of high quality agave-based spirits. Our supply is ready to bottle and ship, from 1000 litre IBC to 25,000 litre ISO tanks upon request.

Types of Agave Spirits:

Tequila has gained a massive following over the last two decades. Agave-based tequila and mezcal sales have surged, making them the second-biggest spirits category globally.

Despite this impressive growth, the tequila market faces challenges from climate change to increasing demands for premium, quality spirits. These challenges have raised concerns among agave growers and producers, who fear that the supply may not be able to keep, potentially leading to shortages of tequila. To address this issue, more brands are experimenting with agave spirits.

We offer premium quality 100% Agave Spirit and 100% Smoked Agave Spirit, also known as Mezcal.

Read on for more information about types of Agave Spirits:

  1. Tequila: Made primarily from the blue agave plant in specific regions of Mexico, tequila can be classified into different types such as blanco (silver), reposado (rested), añejo (aged), and extra añejo (extra aged).
  2. Mezcal: Produced from various species of agave, mezcal often has a smokier flavor due to the traditional production methods, which involve roasting the agave hearts in underground pits.
  3. Raicilla: A lesser-known agave spirit from the state of Jalisco, raicilla is similar to mezcal but is made using different agave species and production techniques.
  4. Bacanora: Originating from the state of Sonora, bacanora is made from the agave Pacifica plant and has a distinct flavor profile.
  5. Sotol: Produced from the sotol plant in northern Mexico, sotol is not technically classified as a type of tequila or mezcal but is often grouped with agave spirits due to similarities in production and consumption.

Quality of Agave Spirits:

The quality of agave spirits can vary depending on factors such as the agave species used, production methods, aging process (if applicable), and the expertise of the distiller. High-quality agave spirits are typically made from 100% agave, without added sugars or artificial flavors, and undergo careful fermentation and distillation processes. At Sasma we stand by our product and only offer high quality, premium Agave Spirits.

Packaging options for Agave Spirits:
