Cachaca is the brazilian equivalant to sugar-cane spirit or the south african cane spirit. Before 2013 the main market for Cachaca was the US. The cachaca was sold in the US as Rum. However because the US passed a new law which ruled out the cachaca as a Rum the cachaca could not be sold as such. The Cachaca was also ruled out because of accelerants used such as malted Barley, in the fermentation stage, and was therefore labelled "Brazilian rum"in the States.
Cachaca takes two forms:
- unaged cachaca (white)
- ages cachaca (gold)
