Amaretto Spirit is a liqueur recognized for its sweet and nutty taste.
This Italian-originating spirit has been enjoyed for generations and is available worldwide. Amaretto was first created in Italy during the 15th century by two families in the small city of Saronno. The name of the spirit comes from the Italian phrase “amaro,” meaning bitter. Amaretto is still produced in Italy, as well as Canada, the United States, and other regions of the world.
How is The Amaretto Spirit Made?
Amaretto Spirit is a blend of alcohol, water, sugar, apricot kernels, and/or almonds. It gets its profile and characteristics from steeped almonds or apricot pits. Before being sweetened with caramelized sugar, the ingredients are steeped from a week to several months. The spirit is filtered and bottled after steeping, resulting in a delicious, amber-colored liqueur with a distinct aroma and flavor.
Amaretto, unlike other distilled spirits, is not matured in barrels or casks. Rather, the flavors emerge during the steeping process. This is one of the reasons Amaretto is ready to drink as soon as it is bottled. At Sasma our supply is ready to bottle upon request, from 1000 litre IBC to 25,000 litre ISO tanks.
Applications and Uses
Amaretto can be enjoyed neat or on the rocks as a digestif. The liqueur is also an ingredient in cocktails with spirits like vodka, cognac, whiskey, or rum. The most prominent mixed drink is the Amaretto Sour, which combines the liqueur with lemon juice and simple syrup. The certificates associated with our spirits include ISO 9001, ISO 22000, and Lloyd’s Register.
