Genever is actually the forerunner of London dry Gin as we know it. Traditionally, Genever was produced in the Netherlands with a high percentage of malt wine, resulting in malty notes like whiskey. In addition, it also resulted in an herbal component like Gin. This is the Genever as we know it: Old and Young Genever.

Jenever can be bottled in two varieties:
- Old Genever (old gin)
- Young Genever (young gin)
