Sugarcane Neutral Alcohol

Sugar cane alcohol is made from fermented sugarcane juice, which is then distilled. As a premium alcohol supplier, we ensure that our sugar cane alcohol is always distilled a minimum of four times and is therefore low in impurities. Find out how you can use bulk sugar cane alcohol for your craft distillation, and much more.

What is sugar cane alcohol?

A fermented and distilled product of sugarcane juice, this alcohol has a neutral smell and taste. Sugar cane alcohol has many uses that range from alcohol production to food applications.

Why use sugar cane alcohol in your distillation process?

Despite the word sugar giving a sweet first impression, this base spirit is a serious multitasker. Sugar cane alcohol 96% can be used to produce distilled spirits such as vodka, bitters, and liqueurs. On the more tropical side, sugarcane alcohol is also commonly used in the production of rum and caçhaca. Sugarcane spirit is a base spirit ideal for the industrial alcohol production. Catering to alcohol types and tastes from around the world, this base spirit gives craft distillers flexibility not only in terms of industrial alcohol production, but also in which specific markets to target around the globe. Covering everything from bitter to tropical palettes, its uses even reach beyond alcohol production. It can also function as a preservative, aid in vinegar production and many other food applications. Has sugar cane alcohol managed to convince you of both its serious and its sweet side? Applications and Use

Neutral Sugarcane Alcohol is used as a base ingredient for rum, cachaca, vodka, and many different liqueurs. Within the food industry, it has been utilized in the production of vinegar, as well as being put to use as a solvent for flavouring. It has also been used as a preservative for a variety of products.

During the production process, sugarcane juice is collected fermented, and distilled to produce the final product of Neutral Sugarcane Alcohol.

Extracting Sugarcane Juice

The first step in the production of Neutral Sugarcane Alcohol is to extract sugar-rich cane juice from the cane stalks by crushing them with an extractor or expeller. Upon extraction, the juice is gathered and delivered to the fermentation tank.

Once the sugarcane juice is gathered in the fermentation tank, yeast is added to the juice. Upon mixing, the yeast enzymes will catalyze a reaction that generates ethanol. After juice extraction, there is a residue leftover that is referred to as fibrous bagasse, containing a moisture content of 45 to 50%. This is typically combusted to generate both electricity and heat for in-factory use. The mixture resulting from fermentation contains between 5-12% ethanol by weight, which we now refer to as beer. Next, the beer is transported to the distillation columns.

Distillation and Dehydration

During this process, the ethanol is recovered in the distillation column. Once the ethanol is recovered, the purity of the ethanol can range from 92 to 95%. Thus, further dehydration is required to separate the water and obtain a higher ethanol purity. A common process to do this would be with molecular sieves. The final result of this is a fuel-grade anhydrous ethanol that is 200 proof.
