What is Grain Neutral Spirit?
Grain neutral spirit, or neutral grain spirit, is an umbrella term that includes various kinds of grain alcohols. Grain Neutral Spirit (GNS) 96% is the standard premium alcohol produced by fermenting and distilling Corn, Rye, Wheat, Barley, Rice or other grains. Grain Neutral Spirit is also referred to as Extra Neutral Alcohol or Neutral Grain Spirits (NGS) in different parts of the world.
Why use GNS as part of your distillation process?
Thanks to it being thoroughly distilled, this grain alcohol has a neutral smell, taste, clear colour and a very low amount of impurities. Lacking its own taste, GNS allows distillers to increase the yield of their product up to three-fold, all without altering the original character. Grain Neutral Spirit is therefore often a go-to choice that offers extensive possibilities.
Grain neutral Spirit 96% is frequently used as a Raw Material Alcohol in the production of Gin, London Dry Gin and Sloe Gin. This base does not interfere with flavour and allows the tastes of the botanicals to stay intact. Grain neutral spirit allows flavours to be maintained and does not overshadow them.
